Girl Next Door

Small town homecoming queen
She's the star in the scene
There's no way to deny she's lovely
Perfect skin, perfect hair
Perfumed heart everywhere
I tell myself that inside she's ugly
Maybe I'm just jealous
I can't help but hate her
Secretly I wonder if my boyfriend wants to date her

She is the prom queen
I'm in the marching band
She is the cheerleader
I'm sitting in the stands
She gets the top bunk
I'm sleeping on the floor
She's Miss America
And I'm just the girl next door

Senior class president
She must be heaven-sent
She was never the last one standing
A backseat debutante
Everything that you want
Never too harsh or too demanding
Maybe I'll admit it
I'm a little bitter
Everybody loves her
But I just wanna hate her

She is the prom queen
I'm in the marching band
She is the cheerleader
I'm sitting in the stands
She gets the top bunk
I'm sleeping on the floor
She's Miss America
And I'm just the girl next door

I don't know why I'm feeling sorry for myself
I spend all my time wishing that I was someone else

She is the prom queen
I'm in the marching band
She is the cheerleader
I'm sitting in the stands
I get a little bit
She gets a little more
She's Miss America
She's Miss America
And I'm just the girl next door

The End of the Innocence

Remember when the days were long
And rolled beneath the deep blue sky
Didn't have a care in the world
With mommy and daddy standing by
But "happily ever after" fails
And we've been poisoned by these fairy tales
The lawyers dwell on small details
Since daddy had to fly

But I know a place where we can go
Still untouched by man
We'll sit and watch the clouds roll by
And the tall grass waves in the wind
You can lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

Oh beautiful for spacious skies
And now those skies are threatening
They're beating blowshares into swords
For this tired old man that we elected king
Armchair warriors often fail
And we've been poisened by these fairy tales
The lawyers clean up all details
Since daddy had to lie

But I know a place where we can go
To wash away the sin
And sit and watch the clouds roll by
And the grass waves in the wind
Just lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair spill all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

Who knows how long this will last
Now we've come so far so fast
But somewhere back there in the dust
Is that same small town in each of us
I need to remember this
So baby give me just one kiss
And let me take a long, last look
Before we say goodbye

Just lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

So Long and Thanks for All the Fish

I saw The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy the other day. The best part of the movie is the opening scene with the dolphins. I was absolutely hysterical during the song. Here's the sing along version from the movie's website. Not as good as the movie, but wonderful for karaoke nevertheless.

"The second most intelligent creatures were, of course, dolphins, who curiously enough had long known of the impending destruction of the planet earth. They had made many attempts to alert mankind to the danger, but most of their communications were misinterpreted as amusing attempts to punch footballs or whistle for tidbits. So they eventually decided they would leave earth by their own means. The last ever dolphin message was misinterpreted as a surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double backwards somersault through a hoop while whistling the Star Spangled Banner. But in fact, the message was this:
So long and thanks for all the fish
."

So long and thanks for all the fish
So sad that it should come to this
We tried to warn you all but oh dear
You may not share our intellect
Which might explain your disrespect
For all the natural wonders that grow around you
So long, so long and thanks for all the fish

Your world's about to be destroyed
There's no point getting all annoyed
Lie back and let the planet dissolve around you
Despite those nets of tuna fleets
We thought that most of you were sweet
Especially tiny tots and your pregnant women
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long and thanks for all the fish

If I had just one last wish
I would like a tasty fish
If we could just change one thing
We would all have learned to sing

Come one and all
Man and mammal
Side by side in life's great gene pool

So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long, so long, so long, so long
So long, so long and thanks for all the fish

I'm Still Here

I am a question to the world
Not an answer to be heard
Or a moment that's held in your arms
And what do you think you'd ever say
I won't listen anyway
You don't know me
And I'll never be what you want me to be

And what do you think you'd understand
I'm a boy
No, I'm a man
You can't take me and throw me away
And how can you learn what's never shown
Yeah, you stand here on your own
They don't know me
'Cause I'm not here

And I want a moment to be real
Wanna touch things I don't feel
Wanna hold on and feel I belong
And how can the world want me to change
They're the ones that stay the same
They don't know me
'Cause I'm not here

And you see the things they never see
All you wanted I could be
Now you know me
And I'm not afraid
And I wanna tell you who I am
Can you help me be a man
They can't break me
As long as I know who I am

And I want a moment to be real
Wanna touch things I don't feel
Wanna hold on and feel I belong
And how can the world want me to change
They're the ones that stay the same
They don't know me
'Cause I'm not here

They can't tell me who to be
'Cause I'm not what they see
And the world is still sleeping
While I keep on dreaming for me
And their words are just whispers
And lies that I'll never believe

And I want a moment to be real
Wanna touch things I don't feel
Wanna hold on and feel I belong
And how can they say I never change
They're the ones that stay the same
I'm the one now
'Cause I'm still here

I'm the one
'Cause I'm still here
I'm still here
I'm still here

Where Would You Be

I wonder where your heart is
'Cause it sure don't feel like it's here
Sometimes I think you wish
That I would just disappear
Have I got it all wrong?
Have you felt this way long?
Are you already gone

Do you feel lonely
When you're here by my side
Does the sound of freedom
Echo in your mind
Do you wish you were by yourself
Or that I was someone else
Anyone else

Where would you be
If you weren't here with me
Where would you go
If you were single and free
Who would you love
Would it be me
Where would you be?

I don't wanna hold you back
No, I don't wanna slow you down
I don't wanna make you feel
Like you were tied up and down
'Cause that's not what love's about
If there's no chance we can work it out
Tell me now

Where would you be
If you weren't here with me
Where would you go
If you were single and free
Who would you love
Would it be me
Where would you be?

Have I become the enemy
Is it hard to be yourself in my company

Where would you be
If you weren't here with me
Where would you go
If you were single and free
Who would you love
Would it be me
Where would you be?

Paint the Silence

How can you say your life is empty
So late in your day
Why would you stay another second
Now your sight got in the way
A combination of love and aggression
Another second lived

Don't paint the silence black now
Save me
Don't leave it a day
You got a right to stand or die
So maybe
You take chances all the same
Pain comes in stages
If we don't make it
Nothing changes

Now the violence sleeps inside
Abandoned feeling for just a piece of mind
It's the reason why your teething side frustrates me

Now the violence sleeps inside
Abandoned feeling for just a piece of mind
It's the reason why your teething side irates me

Don't leave me to pick up on your questions
Not even a day
It's alright to finish up your sentence
You talk all the same
Pain comes in stages
If we don't make it
Nothing changes

Now the violence sleeps inside
Abandoned feeling for just a piece of mind
It's the reason why your teething side frustrates me

Now the violence sleeps inside
Abandoned feeling for just a piece of mind
It's the reason why your teething side irates me

The Change

Take just a few minutes to watch the video at the end of this post.  It should begin playing automaticallly.

One hand reaches out
And pulls a lost soul from harm
While a thousand more go unspoken for
And they say
"What good have you done
By saving just this one?
It's like whispering a prayer
In the fury of a storm."

And I hear them saying
"You'll never change things
And no matter what you do
It's still the same thing."
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know
That it will not change me

This heart still believes
That love and mercy still exist
While all the hatreds rage
And so many say
That love is all but pointless
In madness such as this
It's like trying to stop a fire
With the moisture from a kiss

And I hear them saying
"You'll never change things
And no matter what you do
It's still the same thing."
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world will know
That it will not change me

As long as one heart still holds on
Then hope is never really gone

And I hear them saying
"You'll never change things
And no matter what you do
It's still the same thing."
But it's not the world that I am changing
I do this so this world we know
Never changes me

What I do is so
This world will know
That it will not change me

Garden Walls

Are you supposed to say Happy Good Friday? Hmm...Anyway, a pretty fitting song...

The lights within Jerusalem are gone
But there is one who will not sleep at all
He will call upon the powers of heaven
Deep within a garden's walls

A voice breaks through the silence in the night
And branches shake to hear a grown man cry
Oh He cries and feels the sting of death inside
But He won't ask why

Through the years
And 'cross the deep blue sea
Why would the king of heaven and earth
Bow down to free me

Footsteps in the sand are drawing nigh
And raging voices echo in the sky
Angry eyes can't see that the man they sent to die
Offers life

Through the years
And 'cross the deep blue sea
Why would the King of heaven and earth
Bow down to free me
Two thousand years
And 'cross the deep blue sea
The King of all creation came to free me

The lights within this city now are gone
But there is one who cannot sleep at all
I will answer to the voice that ever calls
From those garden walls

Jesus Was A Crossmaker

This is an awesome soundtrack.  You have to hear this song to like it. It's different.

Sweet silver angels over the sea
Please come down flying low for me

One time I trusted a stranger
'Cause I heard his sweet song
And it was gently enticing me
Though there was something wrong
But when I turned, he was gone

Blinding me his song remains reminding me
He's a bandit and a heartbreaker
Oh but Jesus was a crossmaker

Sweet silver angels over the sea
Please come down flying low for me

He wages war with the devil
A pistol by his side
And though he chases him out windows
And won't give him a place to hide
He keeps his door open wide
Fighting him
He lights a lamp inviting him
He's a bandit and a heartbreaker
Oh but Jesus was a crossmaker

Sweet silver angels over the sea
Please come down flying low for me

I hear the thunder come rumbling
The light never looked so dim
I see the junction get nearer
And danger is in the wind
And either road's looking grim

Hiding me I flee
Desire dividing me
He's a bandit and a heartbreaker
Oh but Jesus was a crossmaker
Yes Jesus was a crossmaker

Sweet silver angels over the sea
Please come down flying low for me

One time I trusted a stranger
'Cause I heard his sweet song
And it was gently enticing me
Though there was something wrong
But when I turned, he was gone

Blinding me his song remains reminding me
He's a bandit and a heartbreaker
Oh but Jesus was a crossmaker
Yes Jesus was a crossmaker

Kerosene

I'm waiting on the sun to set
'Cause yesterday ain't over yet
I started smoking cigarettes
There's nothing else to do, I guess
Dusty roads ain't made for walking
Spinning tires ain't made for stopping

I'm givin' up on love
'Cause love's given up on me

Well I gave it everything I had
And everything I got was bad
Life ain't hard, but it's too long
Livin' like some country song
Trade the truth in for a lie
Cheatin' really ain't a crime

I'm givin' up on love
'Cause love's given up on me

Forget your high society
I'm soaking it in kerosene
Light 'em up and watch them burn
Teach 'em what they need to learn, ha!
Dirty hands ain't made for shakin'
Ain't a rule that ain't worth breakin'

Well I'm givin' up on love
'Cause love's given up on me

Now I don't hate the one who left
You can't hate someone who's dead
He's out there holdin' on to someone
I'm holdin' up my smoking gun
I find somewhere to lay my blame
The day she changes her last name

Well I'm givin' up on love
'Cause love's given up on me
Well I'm givin' up on love
Hey love's given up on me
